Why You Should Still Care How You Look Even if you are Staying at home

You’ve seen me thrift most of my clothing, and my make-up routine can be completed in under 5 minutes with a baby crawling under my feet. I’m pretty low maintenance. But, I wanted to take a minute today to talk about the importance of still putting yourself together even if you are in isolation and staying at home.

Take it from a full-time stay at home, work at home, homeschooling momma, it’s more important than you might think.

Why you should still care how you look, even if you are only staying at home

Here are my top reasons why it’s important to care for yourself when you are staying home:

  1. It adds routine to your day
  2. It’s nice to look pretty
  3. It’s an act of self-love
  4. If you wait for a “good enough” reason that day may never come
  5. It’s great for your relationship
  6. It gives you confidence

Getting ready for the day adds some routine and normalcy to your life

When your schedule is totally thrown out the window because of an unforeseen circumstance like what the world is experiencing right now, it brings great joy and comfort when you can still participate in the small, normal activities you used to enjoy.

It’s nice to look pretty

I don’t know about you, but on those days when I haven’t spent much time on myself and I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror, it actually shocks me.

It’s not that I think I look ugly without makeup or my hair done. I just can see that I haven’t taken time for myself, and that makes me sad.

Taking time for yourself is an act of self-care and self-love

I’ve mentioned this before in my self-talk for weight loss video that I’ll link here.

When you really take the time to put yourself together-whether that means painting your nails, getting totally glammed up or just brushing your hair and throwing on some moisturizer, you feel like you matter.

You tell your internal self that you matter by taking care of your external self.

Does that make sense?

If you wait for a good enough reason you might be waiting for a long time!

As a stay at home, work at home, homeschooling mom from the *before times*….let me tell you, I usually only left the house for a grocery run, kid activity or date night.

To be honest, even though I might seem a little extroverted here on YouTube, in the real world I really value my alone time.

I love being at home. But I also love getting ready for the day.

Even with 4 kids who need my constant attention and support, I still make sure to take time for myself most days because if I didn’t, then I would never get to feel put together.

I never had an excuse to put on my favorite jeans and make-up if I wasn’t going out except to look good for myself. So do it for yourself!

It’s great for your relationship

Of course, you are going to look more attractive if you put effort into yourself, but I’ll argue that the most attractive thing about you getting ready for the day, isn’t the shade of lipstick you chose.

It’s the fact that you have the self-respect and self-love to show that you care about how you present yourself.

Even if you are only presenting yourself to your partner or yourself.

It Gives you Confidence

We need confidence in our daily lives not just when we are tackling a specific goal that feels difficult, but we need it in our everyday lives.

Confidence brings happiness and empowerment. These are both key to having an overall happy and successful life.

With that sense of empowerment comes a sense of control. This is something we all need to feel in our lives. That we can affect our circumstances and control our outcomes. We need to feel this in order to be happy in our lives, but now more than ever we need to feel a sense of control.
