Ingredients

Ingredients Check:

  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1/3 cup Silk Soy Original
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp canola oil
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup ground flax seeds
  • 1 1/2 tsp bread machine yeast

Instructions

The Nitty Gritty:

  1. Add all of your ingredients to your bread machine in the order listed by the manufacturer.
  2. Place insert into the machine and select "basic cycle" for a 2 pound loaf

  3. Some machines have an option to select crust colour-I always choose "medium brown"

  4. Once the machine is done (mine takes around 3 hours)  carefully remove the insert from the machine and turn the loaf out onto a cooling rack.

  5. If you can hold yourself back from slicing it right away (we can never do that!!!) Then It's best to wait until the loaf is fully cooled before slicing. The structure of the loaf will be compromised with it still being hot-making for a squished loaf while slicing (but honestly, squished or not-it's so worth it for the warm slice of fresh bread slathered with vegan butter!)

  6. Once cooled, slice your loaf lengthwise into two smaller loaves. Now cut these loaves into slices of bread.

  7. I like to cut all of my bread at once so the kids and the rest of the family have easy access to it, and to contain the mess of all the crumbs from constant slicing!

Recipe Notes

  • You can substitute the Silk Soy milk with your favourite non-dairy milk
  • In Canada All-purpose flour works perfect due to the gluten content for bread-no need to purchase "bread flour"
  • Yeast made for the bread machine has smaller granules and will dissolve and do its thing more readily than traditional yeast (which needs to be dissolved in liquid prior to adding to a recipe). Be sure you are using bread machine yeast, otherwise known as instant yeast.
